Steps
Decide what you want to fix. Use concealer first if you need to neutralise redness, dark circles or uneven patches of colour.
Start with clean, moisturised skin. Let your skincare settle for a minute so the concealer does not slide.
For colour correction, dot a small amount of concealer on the dark or red areas before any foundation.
Tap the concealer in with a damp sponge or your fingertip. Do not rub, just press it into the skin.
Apply your foundation or tinted moisturiser over the top in a thin layer. Go lightly over the corrected spots so you do not blend the concealer away.
Check your face in daylight. If the correction has faded, add a tiny dot of concealer on top and tap it in.
For the concealer-after method, apply foundation first and look at where coverage is still missing.
Dot concealer only on those spots, such as under the eyes or on blemishes, and blend the edges.
Set the concealer with a light dusting of powder if you have oily skin or want it to last longer.
Tips and common mistakes
Use less concealer than you think you need, especially with the after-foundation method.
A damp sponge gives a softer finish than fingers, but warm fingertips melt the product into the skin well.
If your correction keeps disappearing, use a slightly thicker concealer before foundation and a lighter foundation on top.
Check your makeup in natural light near a window, not just in bathroom lighting.
Questions
Should I put concealer before or after foundation?
Both work. Put it before if you are correcting colour like redness or dark circles, and after if you just want extra coverage on a few spots. It depends on your skin and the finish you like.
Why does my concealer disappear under foundation?
Foundation can blend away the correction. Use a slightly thicker concealer, tap it in well, and apply foundation gently over the top with a sponge.
How much concealer should I use?
Start with a tiny dot and build up. When you apply it after foundation you can see exactly where you need it, so you often need much less than you expect.
