What you need
Steps
Start with your base makeup finished: foundation, concealer and a light dusting of powder. All three products sit on top of a set base, so they blend instead of streaking.
Load a fluffy angled brush with bronzer and tap off the excess. Warm the powder on the back of your hand first so it goes on evenly.
Sweep bronzer along your hairline, temples and the hollow under your cheekbones, then down the jawline. Keep it on the outer edge of the face, not the centre.
Smile to find the apples of your cheeks and apply blush with a soft round brush. Blend it up towards your temple in short, light strokes.
Pick up highlighter with a small tapered or fan brush. Tap a little on the tops of your cheekbones, brow bone, nose bridge and cupid's bow.
Blend the edges where the three products meet with a clean brush. Check in daylight and add more only in thin layers.
Tips and common mistakes
Apply bronzer before blush so the blush stays pink instead of turning muddy.
Tap the brush on the back of your hand each time, since a heavy hand is the main reason bronzer looks orange.
Keep highlighter away from large pores and fine lines and place it on the highest point of the cheekbone.
Choose a bronzer one or two shades warmer than your skin rather than several shades darker than your foundation.
Questions
In what order should I apply bronzer, blush and highlighter?
Bronzer first to shape the face, blush next on the cheeks, then highlighter last on the high points. This keeps each layer visible and stops the blush from being pushed around.
Can I use cream products instead of powder?
Yes. Apply cream bronzer and blush with your fingers or a damp sponge, then set lightly with powder before adding a powder highlighter.
Where should bronzer go for a natural look?
On the outer edges of the face: hairline, temples, under the cheekbones and along the jaw. Stop a couple of centimetres from your nose so the centre of the face stays light.
