Steps
Open CapCut and tap New project. Pick your clips from your phone gallery, then tap Add to drop them on the timeline.
Tap Text in the bottom menu, then Add text. Type your words in the box and tap the check mark to place the text on the video.
Drag the text box on the preview to move it. Pull the corner handles to resize it, and drag the text track edges to set how long it stays.
Tap Style to choose a font, colour and outline, then open Animation to add a simple entrance such as Fade in.
Tap Audio, then Sounds to browse CapCut music, or Music to import a file from your phone. Tap the plus icon to add the track.
Drag the audio track to line it up with your clip. Tap the track and use Volume to lower the music, and Fade in or Fade out for smooth edges.
Tap Text, then Auto captions. Choose the language spoken in the video and tap Generate. Wait while CapCut transcribes the speech.
Tap any caption on the timeline to fix a wrong word. Use the style options to set font, size and position, then apply it to all captions.
Play the video from the start and check text placement, music level and caption timing. Fix anything that looks off.
Tap the export button at the top right, choose 1080p and 30fps, then save the finished video to your phone.
Tips and common mistakes
Keep each caption to a few words so viewers can read it before it changes.
Set music volume to around 20 to 30 percent so speech stays clear.
Check names and numbers in the captions by hand, since auto captions often get them wrong.
Record in a quiet room, because background noise makes auto captions less accurate.
Questions
Are auto captions free in CapCut?
Auto captions are built into the free CapCut mobile app. Some fonts, effects and templates are marked Pro, so stick to the standard ones if you do not want to pay.
Why are my captions out of sync?
This usually happens when the wrong language is picked or the audio is noisy. Check the language setting, regenerate, then drag or split caption blocks on the timeline to retime them.
Can I change the caption style after generating them?
Yes. Tap a caption, open Style, set the font, colour, outline and position, then apply the same look to all captions in one go.
