What you need
Steps
Open the Notion page where you want the button and click on an empty line to place your cursor there.
Type /button and pick Button from the menu, or choose Button from the block menu. A button block appears with a default label.
Click Edit or the button settings to open the action list. Give the button a clear name like Add Task so you know what it does.
Click Add a step and choose an action. Common picks are Insert blocks, Add page to, Edit properties or Open link.
For an Add page to action, select the database and set the property values the new page should get, such as status or date.
Add more steps if you need them. Steps run in order from top to bottom, so drag them to reorder.
Set the button style and color, then close the settings. Click the button to test that it does what you expect.
To reuse the button, copy it and paste it on other pages, or turn it into a template button inside a database.
Tips and common mistakes
Name each button by the result it produces, not by the action, so you can find it later.
Test on a scratch page first, since some actions like deleting blocks cannot be undone easily.
Keep buttons to a few steps. Long chains are hard to debug when something goes wrong.
Questions
Do Notion buttons cost extra?
No. Buttons are a built-in block available on the free plan, so you can add them without paying.
Can a button ask me for input before it runs?
Yes. Some actions let you add a prompt so the button asks for a value, like a name or date, each time you click it.
Can I undo a button click?
You can undo most changes with Ctrl+Z or Cmd+Z, but actions that delete or move pages may be harder to reverse.
